At the age of 25, Trevor found himself in the first leadership position of his fledgling career. Following a quick rise in the ranks of the professional fundraising world, he was given the position of director at a newly established hospital foundation. With this role came the unexpected responsibilities as a member of the senior leadership team. Only in later years, upon reflection, has Trevor realized how truly out of his element he was.
Entering the business world a short time later, Trevor wasted no time growing his new real estate career into a franchise real estate brokerage, a property management company overseeing 1000 doors in 5 cities, a mortgage brokerage and a real estate development company that would ultimately be involved in the redevelopment of 40 properties. Through all the ups and downs of business ownership, including two near bankruptcies, Trevor maintained the expected demeanor of a successful business owner, refusing to show vulnerability.
As the various business ventures that Trevor took on continued to evolve his understanding and appreciation of business, his true leadership skills would be molded by positions he took on away from his own businesses. First, as a member of the board of governors of a college, followed by the chair position at a provincial regulator and eventually as the chair of the governance committee of an international not-for-profit. Though these positions built the base for Trevor’s leadership, his passion for guiding people, managing change, inspiring others and providing thought leadership came from executive and c-suite positions where he could truly learn from his experiences and the people around him.
His dedication to lifelong learning and other personal, life changing experiences are also significant contributors to Trevor’s understanding of business and leadership. After recently completing a Master of Business Administration in Executive Management (Leadership Specialization), Trevor enrolled in a Master of Laws program, which he is currently learning through. Often reflecting on learnings from other experiences in his life, Trevor draws on lessons from an 8000 km bicycle journey across Canada, being a part of a national championship football team, competing as a top tier national amateur bodybuilder, completing a TedX Talk highlighting his passion for business and leadership and teaching leadership and governance nationally.
Trevor currently lives in Vancouver, BC with his wife, Jill while his daughter, Abby, is attending the University of Victoria.
